Ashanti Anglo Gold Ashanti (AGA), though non-operational, has donated medical equipment to the Obuasi Government Hospital to facilitate healthcare delivery in Obuasi and its environs in the Adansi district.
The GHc1.3 million worth of medical gadgets include; general surgery packs and supplies, suction machine, surgical instruments and dental supplies.
The managing director of AGA, Mr. Eric Asubonteng, stated while presenting the items to the hospital, through the Ashanti regional minister, Mr. Alexander John Ackon that, AGA believes the equipment will be of utmost benefit to the hospital, as they were specifically selected based on the recommendations of the hospital, prior to the selection process.
The AGA’s Managing Director revealed that the tools were sourced through a partnership with Project Cure, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) in the American city of Denver, with the aim of enhancing lives in developing countries through health care delivery.
He explained that it is the expectation of both management of AGA and Project Cure that these items will be put to judicious use and called on the hospital management to adopt a very coherent maintenance regime as far as the equipment are concerned.
Mr. Asubonteng said the gesture was AGA’s commitment to the people of Obuasi and its environs and expressed gratitude to Project Cure for the immense support and hoped there would be more opportunities for further collaboration in the future.
According to the AGA top official, the company has over the years supported the hospital in numerous ways, including provision of Doctors bungalows, generators and construction of some wards.
He assured residents of Obuasi of AGA’s unflinching support and disclosed that plans are underway for AGA to donate medical gadgets to other health facilities in Obuasi.
The Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Francis Lord Loglo, expressed appreciation to the AGA and Project Cure: “We are so grateful to them for the gesture.
Four years ago they donated items to us. Three weeks ago, the Ashanti regional minster, Mr. Alexander John Ackon donated items to the hospital.
He welcomed more donations from philanthropists in order to serve the community better thereby upholding the name of Ghana Health Service in Obuasi and Ashanti region and explained that Obuasi hospital is needy hospital since it is not well endowed.
Ashanti Regional minster, Mr. Alexander John Ackon, thanked AGA and Project Cure for the gesture and admonished hospital authorities to take good care of the items which has been donated to them.
He called on authorities to check the voltage of the electrical gadgets and work on their medium of power transmissions.
