3The Ghana Baptist University College (GBUC) Kumasi has inaugurated its School of Nursing and Medical Centre at Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region, with a call on the authorities to adopt a code of dressing in the school.
The Abuakwa nursing school and health centre is the fourth health facility by the Ghana Baptist Convention (GBC). The Chancellor of the school, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, said the facility will serve, not only as a place to provide practical training for students of the school of nursing, but also the Abuakwa community and its environs.

The GBUC Chancellor said the Baptist Health Service will continue to become a light to this nation, and gave the assurance that holistic Baptist education and healthcare will continue to make an impact on human development in Ghana.

2According to him, between now and the close of 2017, nine additional Baptist health facilities would be in operation. He expressed the hope that the opening of the school of nursing “will offer a lot of our people the opportunity to find avenues for further education, as well as create jobs for the citizenry of this country, and also provide better health service for people.”

He warned students who come to study there to comport themselves very well, since they would be sharing the facility with pastors at the school of theology and ministry.

He admonished the staff to ensure that discipline is installed in the code of dressing, so that the ladies do not wear indecent dresses to tempt the young pastors in training, thus creating a conducive atmosphere to prevail on campus for learning.

Mr. John Alexander Ackon, Ashanti Regional Minister, who was the Guest Speaker, noted that health is the wealth of a nation, and that no nation can make significant inroads in its developmental aspirations without providing an effective and efficient health system.

Mr. Ackon noted that there have always been conscious efforts to bring mortality and morbidity to the barest minimum, since they cannot be eliminated completely. He stressed the need to provide the needed institutions capable people to provide services to the peope.

1Minister Ackon commended GBUC for establishing a nursing school, adding that the inaugural ceremony should remind Ghanaians that with commitment, hard work and unity, “we can achieve our goals of bringing relief to the suffering. as we propagate the good gospel of our Jesus Christ.”

He urged the school authorities and student body to strive for higher achievements to raise the standard of this school to be one of the best nursing schools in Ghana. The Chairman of the function, Mr. Albert J. Quarm, called on Ghanaians to expand their scope to help humanity.

4He pledged to donate 100 bags of cement to support the construction of the school, assuring that they would be delivered as soon as practicable. He was of the hope that the cement will help in the building of structures in the school.

Meanwhile, the GBUC has donated three wheelchairs to the Asokore Mampong Health Directorate to facilitate healthcare. The gesture is part of a donation from the North American Baptist Association of the Ghana Baptist Convention.
