Ashanti Fire Command steps up fire-fighting …in markets and homes

The Chief Fire Officer, Dr. Albert Brown Gaisie, has commended the Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service for the rehabilitation of two vehicles for use by the Market Education Task Force and Home Safety Unit.

The Task Force and Unit are tasked to protect the investment of traders at the markets, and residents, through education on the use of fire extinguishers, fire detectors and basic information on causes and prevention of fire.

The Chief Fire Officer said the move was in a right direction towards ensuring effective education to minimise cases of fire in the markets and homes.

The commendation came last Thursday, at the launch of the 2016/17 National Bush Fire Prevention Campaign, and the Regional Home Fire safety Certification Project, under the theme: “Protecting the Environment and Ensuring Fire Safety at Homes”.

The occasion also coincided with the commissioning of a guard post, and reception at the Regional Headquarters, dedicated to the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Prosper Bani.

Dr. Brown Gaisie noted that it was the shared responsibility of all stakeholders to enforce laws on environmental degradation.

He called for the recognition of the traditional authorities in the effective enforcement of customary laws in the management of the environment.Image may be NSFW.
