The National Ambulance Service (NAS), in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services, has graduated the second batch of Military Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) in paramedical training to provide first aid and frontline trauma care on the battlefield.
The training was also to enable the MEMTs provide continuing medical care in the absence of readily available physicians, including care for diseases and battle injuries.
The graduation ceremony, which was held last week at the Quarter Master Yard in the 37 Military Hospital, witnessed the passing out of 76 EMTs, who had through vigorous paramedic training to augment the current military EMTs staff of 66.
Prof. Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah, delivering a speech to address the paramedics, noted that among the major problems facing Ghana’s healthcare delivery is lack of an emergency response system.
