From Issah Alhassan, Kumasi
THE CHIEF and elders of Wamase, a suburb of Kumasi, have taken delivery of assorted medical items valued at over GHc15,000, presented to them by Dr. Charles Dwamena, the Chief Executive Officer of TAED Foundation, a Kumasi-based non-governmental organization.
The items included Out-Patient Department chairs, folder records and other critical equipment, which are expected to assist in the operation of the facility, when formally opened. The Community Health facility is yet to be open, due to lack of facilities. A situation which residents say would require immediate attention from the government.
According to Dr. Charles Dwamena, who happens to be a son of the Wamase Community, but domiciled in China, there was the need for corporate bodies, individuals and philanthropists to immediately assist in getting the facility to become fully operational.
He said the health of any individual determines his wealth, stressing that without medical facilities, it would be difficult to save the people who become susceptible to diseases.
He said it was for this reason that his NGO has decided, as a responsibility, to help in the areas of health, education and civil rights responsibilities by engaging various stakeholders in the society.
Dr. Dwamena said the donation represented the first batch and that between April and June this year, the Foundation would once again come to the aid of the Wamase community. The Chief of Wamase, Nana Ennin Agyei, said the initiative by TAED was a positive one which must be emulated by citizens of the community both home and abroad.
He expressed worry that though the construction of hospital has been completed, it is yet to be operationalised because of lack of logistics. Nana Agyei therefore appealed to KMA to expedite action on the project to enable residents in and around the community access quality healthcare.
