The classroom block for Abesim Presbyterian JHSMr. Akwasi Oppong Ababio, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive has criticized parents who deny their children breakfast because of the school Feeding Programme being implemented by the government.

Mr. Oppong Ababio emphasized that the School Feeding programme should not be a substitute for children’s breakfast, but a supplement to encourage and motivate children to stay in school with a healthy mind to study.

The MCE said this during the inauguration of educational projects in some communities within the municipality. He appealed to parents and guardians to do their best in ensuring quality education of the children and desist from buying expensive funeral clothing and other irrelevant things to the detriment of their children’s education.

According to Kwasi Oppong Ababio, government was doing its part with the provision of infrastructure, furniture and other teaching and learning materials, as well as free school uniforms, and the least Parents and Guardians can do is to provide the basic items like shoes, pencils, uniforms and exercise books, to encourage the children stay in school for their own future.

He called on Fathers to stop sending their children to buy them alcohol and cigarettes, since it encourages the children to also go into drinking and smoking.
