From Richard Owusu-Akyaw

Madam Veronica Antwi-AdjeiClass Five pupils of the Esreso District Assembly (D/A) school have no option, but to study under teak trees, owing to the increasing population of the school.

A visit to the school by the Ashanti File saw over 35 pupils studying in the open, amid distraction by vehicular movement and other activities, while carpenters, numbering four, were seen busily working on the roofing of a seeming stalled 6-unit Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) classroom block.

The Headteacher of the school, Mr. Justice Amoah Poku, told the Ashanti File in an interview at his office that it had become necessary that the students study under the trees in the open, as a result of the increase in enrolment.

Studying in the openResponding to a question, he said when it rains, the students join their colleagues in one of the classrooms, hoping that a 6-unit GETFund project, on completion, would minimise congestion in the school, which has a population of 853.

Headmaster Amoah Poku indicated that they would need another six-unit classroom block.

He stated that this development cropped up during the latter part of the last academic term, and hoped work on the six-unit classroom block would be expedited to get the Class Five “D” pupils to study in the classroom.

Stalled six-unit classroom GETFund project. The Bosomtwe District Chief Executive, Veronica Antwi Agyei, attributed the situation in the completion of the 6-unit classroom block to the delay in the GETFund money from the Local Government Ministry.

She indicated that the assembly had earmarked funds in its 2014-15 budget for another a six-classroom block to be built to ease congestion in the school.
