There is a great possibility of a grave accident on the Koforidua-Suhum road if the authorities in the road sector and Suhum Municipal Assembly fail to react immediately over the construction of illegal speed ramps on the Akote section of the road.
Residents of the area, a farming community in the Suhum Municipality, with impudence have mounted about ten illegal speed ramps on the Koforidua to Suhum road, posing a serious danger to motorists and other road users.
The state of the ramps, which are made out of sludge and heaped across the road, if not destroyed, could lead to accidents, particularly for drivers who are unfamiliar with that stretch of road.
Road users, especially drivers, have to demonstrate immense patience upon reaching the area, and meander their way over the shoulders of the ramps which are comparatively low.
The action of the residents, according to information reaching the Eastern File, follows an accident that occurred at the area last week Saturday, killing four people on the spot.
The accident happened at about 6:40 p.m. on that fateful day, when a group of young men who were driving salon cars virtually reduced that section of the road to what could be described as a formula one race track after attending a funeral in Koforidua.
Following poor visibility, the “formula one racers” veered off the road and ran into some pedestrians killing four of them instantly.
One of the drivers in the salon car sustained various degrees of injuries, and has since been taken to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment, and the dead bodies deposited at the morgue.
