LCI Donates To Tema General Hospital Eye Clinic

Some of the equipments donated to the Tema General Hospital Eye ClinicManagement of Lion Clubs International (LCI) donated eye equipment worth over US$60,000 to the Tema General Hospital Eye Clinic (TGHEC) last Tuesday.

The donation was to equip the structure it built for the Eye Clinic years ago, to enable it take good care of people with eye problems within the community and around the world.

Some of the equipment presented to the TGHEC include, operating microscope, electric steriliser or instrument, visual field analyzer with external, computer and printer, and hand held tonometer (perkins).

The rest include pulse air tonometer, which, in Ghana, according to them, can be found only in the Tema General Hospital.

The occasion was used to inaugurate a seven-member committee to ensure the maintenance of the equipment.

Present at the function were the Minister of Health, Ms Sherry Ayittey, Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Robert Kempes Ofosuware, Presiding Member of Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), Romeo Akahoho, and some medical doctors from the Tema General Hospital.

The elected members were Dr. Patrick Kwaw Quaidoo, who is in-charge, from the Ministry of Health, Magdalene Ayittey, head of the Nursing Department at the Tema General Hospital, Mr. E. K. Adjetey, representative of the Tema Traditional Council, and Olivia Elorm, in charge of the Ophthalmology Department.

The rest are Lion Clement Torsutse, head of Tema Lion Club, Lion Nana Esi Perry, Lion Club, and Elizabeth Dogbe, Tema General Hospital.

Addressing the gathering, Gloria Esi Lassey, Governor of the District 403A2, disclosed that more than 30 million people have had their vision restored through Sight First, which is a branch of the LCI, since 1990.

She also noted that Sight First had been making quality eye care accessible to those who most needed it.

Ms. Lassey hinted that in Ghana, equipping the TGHEC was the second major project the LCI had supported in recent times.

Ms. Sherry Ayittey expressed her heart felt appreciation to the LCL for the kind gesture towards the TGHEC, and promised to appeal for more support for the hospital.
