The Mfantseman Girls Senior High School in the Mfantseman District Region last Friday bagged 58 points to win Ahomka FM’s Central Regional Quiz competition finals organised by the management of the radio station, which is based in Elmina.

The school was presented with a fully installed First Digital Digi Box, assorted books from EPP Bookshop, a plaque and a certificate as its prize.

The St. Augustines SHS in the Cape Coast Municipality came second with 57 points and was given a plaque, certificate and textbooks, while Aggrey Memorial SHS in Cape Coast and Obiri Yeboah SHS in Assin Fosu emerged third and fourth with 49 and 38 points respectively.

The competition, which was sponsored by the Ghana Media Group (GMG), saw the competition keenly contested between the first and second schools contestants, who answered questions in English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science and General Knowledge.

In all, sixteen SHS across the region were grouped into four zones to compete among themselves in the maiden edition of the competition.

In an exclusive interview with The Chronicle, the General Manager of Ahomka FM, Mr. Agyekum Ataara Sunday, stated that the aim behind the quiz competition was to make a positive contribution as a corporate social responsibility toward society.

He said Ahomka FM, as a business entity, had the strong opinion that goes beyond generation of revenue, but also the responsibility to the communities within which it operates with positive contributions to the education sector.

Mr. Sunday noted that the education sector is a key area within the region, and regretted the recent abysmal performance of the SHS candidates who wrote WASSCE, adding that it is incumbent on all Ghanaians to help correct such anomalies.

He said the quiz competition was a programme to ignite the passion of students to make them realise that they need to learn and prepare well to face any examination ahead of them, as well as beefing up the credibility of the radio station and build positive image, he added.

Mr. Sunday encouraged students in the region to take their studies seriously, in order to become meaningful adults in future to help develop the nation.

He, therefore, assured all that the target would not be only on the SHS alone, but the JHS, as well in others to impart knowledge to students in the region.
