AkropongThe administrators of the Koforidua Special School for the Deaf and Akropong School for the Blind have urged individuals and corporate institutions in the country to readily support the running of special schools.

According to the heads, it would not be out of proportion if corporate organisations and well-meaning Ghanaians contribute their widow’s mite towards the smooth running of the aforementioned institutions, since the government alone cannot do it.

They made the appeal during a short but impressive and timely donation of items, including bags of rice, cooking oil, assorted drinks, biscuits, and clothing among others by the management of Mensvic Grand Hotel.

Speaking on behalf of the two institutions, the Headmistress of the Akropong School for the Blind, Madam Mahela Narh, said most often the management of these schools go through difficult conditions to ensure smooth operations.

She was full of praises for the management of Mensvic Grand Hotel, one of the largest and finest hotels in East Legon, for the timely intervention and contributions towards the running of these schools.

This is the second time that the management of the East Legon based first class hotel has presented various items to the two schools as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Notwithstanding the economic challenges in the country, the items donated by management of Mensvic Grand Hotel were more than what it donated last year.

At the Special School for the Deaf, where it first presented the items to the Headmaster, the children performed a cultural show which held the gathering spellbound

Presenting the items to the schools at separate ceremonies, the leader of the delegation, Madam Victoria Mensah, indicated that the management of the hotel had decided to celebrate and demonstrate love and care to the children.

According to her, despite the huge economic crisis in the country, her outfit considered sharing the little it has with the children to show love and reassure them of collective support towards their development.

She promised assisting the two schools with stationeries, as well as computers, in an effort to improve on the teaching and learning process of the children, particularly, in an era where the computer has become a basic but necessary communication tool.
