The Afigya Kwabre District has honoured individuals and personalities who have contributed immensely to the socio-economic development of the area.
Some of the personalities honoured by the district include the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, for his immense contribution to eliminating crime and armed robbery in the area, and for elevating the local police station to district status.
Others include Kwadwo Nkansah Lywin, Anita Afriyie, an actor and gospel musician respectively, and Nana Ahenkro Osei III, Chief of Ahenkro, for single-handedly building a police station at Ahenkro.
Honoring the personalities at the annual “Efie ne Fie” event initiated by Mr. Kaakyire Oppong Kyekyeku, District Chief Executive, he explained that the annual celebration was to bring on board all the citizens from the area, both at home and in the diaspora, together as one people to pool their resources, and in collaboration with the assembly, champion development aimed at improving the living standards of the people.
He appealed to Nananom and all the stakeholders to help in ensuring that the occasion is maintained, to enable them remain united and improve their culture, as one people with the same destiny. He further added that it was time for everyone to desist from politicising everything and support anything that could enhance development, “for where there is division, there cannot be development.”
The DCE hinted that both the Kwabre East and Afigya Kwabre districts would jointly open a rural bank to serve the communities and the people in business and farming, and pleaded with the citizens to help in the realisation of this dream.
Mr. Owuraku Aidoo and Nana Amoako Amaniampong, both members of Parliament, commended the DCE for his inspiration and vision of bringing the people together every year with the aim of brainstorming for developmental projects.
