The elected Assembly Member for the Chapel Hill electoral area, Mr. Wilson Kwofie, who has been nicknamed ‘Chapel Hill Mugabe’ following the number of times he had represented the electoral area as Assembly Member, is contesting the position for the fifth time.
Wilson Kwofie has represented the Chapel Hill electoral area since 1998, when he was elected Assembly Member for the area, and has represented the area for the fourth consecutive time. Since Wilson Arthur defeated one Mr. Asante Asare in 1998 to become the Assembly Member, no one has been able to deny him the position following his performance.
Information picked up by this file indicated that Wilson Arthur had wanted to back out of the race this time round, but continuous pressure from his electoral area compelled him to pick up his nomination form to contest for the position for the fifth time.
Now that the Chapel Hill Mugabe has been cleared to contest, the stakes are high that he would chalk another victory, though he is being challenged by another candidate for the very position. Speaking to this file, Chapel Hill Mugabe confirmed that it was not his intention to contest the seat for the fifth consecutive time, however, pressure from his electorates saw him file his nomination.
Wilson Kwofie believes his good work as Assembly Member was written all over the place, hence the call on him to go for it again. Speaking to some of the electorate in the area, they extolled the good works of the Assembly Member as the reason they maintained him for the fourth consecutive time.
The electorate mentioned how the Assembly Member had championed the street lighting for the area, and the improvement in the water system, as a few of his achievements. The issue of flooding, which, hitherto, used to be a problem, had also been tackled. A resident, Fuseina, recounted how the Assembly Member personally helped to secure a parcel of land to bury a relative at East Tanokrom.
