A Football Analyst, Ebenezer Kwamina Thompson, is among three candidates vying to be elected Assembly Member for the Zongo Estate electoral area in Sekondi.
The Football Analyst is contesting the seat, following the decision of the incumbent Assembly Member to withdraw from the race. For now, the prospects are high for Kwamina Thompson, following his popularity as a football analyst on local radio stations in Sekondi-Takoradi.
Kwamina Thompson is contesting the seat with three Zongo candidates, and is sure to come out of the race victorious. The Zongo electoral area comprises of Prisons, Estate and Maxwell Road, and has, over the years, been dominated by Muslim contestants.
But Kwamina Thompson says he was going to spring a surprise by raking the votes from the three areas, and as well sharing the Zongo votes with the other three Muslim candidates hailing from the Zongo area.
Speaking in an interview, Kwamina Thompson said the grounds were fertile for him to be elected the next Assembly Member. He said he had the advantage of securing Christian votes from the Prisons, Estate and Maxwell road voters, and at the same time, sharing the Zongo votes with the three Muslim candidates.
Kwamina Thompson, however, said that even before had decided to contest the race, he was already into organising the youth for communal labour. That apart, he was also organising football matches for the youth in the area to raise funds in support of communal labour.
It is this spirit of communal labour that Kwamina Thompson believes the residents would use as a mark to reward him as the next Assembly Member.
