The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ahanta West Constituency, Mr. George Kwame Aboagye, at the weekend commissioned a 20-seater toilet facility and mechanised water project for the electorates of Yabiw and Beahu respectively.
The toilet facility, for instance, has come as a great relief to the electorate of Yabiw, who, over the years, have had no public toilet to serve them, resulting in their having to attend nature’s call in nearby bushes.
The timely intervention by the MP in going to the aid of the electorate of Yabiw with the provision of the toilet facility is a welcome relief. At the commissioning of the facility, it was all praise for the MP, who the electorate described as an action-oriented man.
The 20-seater toilet facility project was started by the former Member of Parliament for the area, Samuel Johnfiah, but he could not complete the project before leaving office. Consequently, the sitting MP, George Kwame Aboagye, continued and has completed the project.
George Kwame Aboagye told the residents of Yabiw that he did not subscribe to the idea of project abandonment simply because it was initiated by his predecessor, and that the electorate of Yabiw deserved better, hence his decision to continue and finish the project.
He added that the share of the Common Fund (CF) used was government money allocated for project. As a result, it would have been unreasonable for him to have abandoned the project and begin new projects, which may have come at a cost. “We need to learn to give value for government money.”
Aboagye could not understand why projects embarked upon by MPs should be politicised. “We have to stop politicising projects, and rather continue projects started by our predecessors, in order to give value for government money.”
He said he did not understand “why we should start all new projects when there is [an] uncompleted project of same nature.”
Kwame Aboagye, who was a former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), however, pledged to repair the Dixcove-Busua Bridge, which was on the verge of collapse.
On his part, the Assembly Member for Beahu-Yabiw, Albert Quarm, could not hide his joy, and said for the people of Yabiw, the toilet facility was the first kind of development in the area.
