3The Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly has disbursed GH¢24,278 to over 63 Persons With Disabilities in the district.
The beneficiaries were selected mostly from members of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD), the Ghana Blind Union, and National Association of the Deaf, all under the umbrella of Ghana Federation of the Disabled, within the Sekyere Kumawu District.

The disbursed amount, ranging from GH¢150 to GH¢400, depending on proposals submitted to the Disability Fund Management Committee (DFMC), and constitutes 2% of the Assembly’s share of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF). Two persons, however, received a wheelchair each as their proposals demanded.

The District Chief Executive for the area, Mr Samuel Asiamah, advised the beneficiaries to use their monies for the intended purposes. He also expressed his appreciation to the members of the Committee, stating further that he was impressed with the way and manner it was working to ensure fairness and equity in the disbursement of the funds.

The DCE also however assured the PWDs that the government was aware of their predicaments, and would do everything within its means to ensure that their living conditions were improved. The District Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Mrs. Anita Donkor, implored the beneficiaries to put the money to good use, and announced that a team would embark on regular visits to the monitor activities of the beneficiaries to ensure that the right things are done.
