Alex Segbefia 1Contrary to media reports that members of the Koforidua Zongo Community in the New Juabeng Municipality were threatening to deal drastically with a midwife who allegedly turned away a woman in labour, the former has called on the public not vilify the said midwife, since she had contributed to the health situation off the area.

It was reported in the media that a certain Bushira Safinau, 25, who was in labour and visited the Zongo health post was turned away by the midwife for not shaving her private part.

According to members of the Zongo community, “this report shocked the whole nation especially, members of the Zongo community. But those of us who know the true fact of the matter, wish to make it public, so as to allay fears and appreciate the good work of the health facility to the people of Koforidua Zongo Community and the general public”.

Addressing a cross-section of the Eastern Regional Press Corps, the spokesperson for Concern Members of the Koforidua Zongo Community, Abubakar Alhassan, said the allegation started some two years ago.

The spokesperson, also a member of the Zongo Zonal Council, disclosed that the matter has been brought before the Council on over four occasions by the Chairman of the Council, Silasi Amuzu, but each time the members resolved that the said victim and midwife should be brought before them.

The said allegation, according to the spokesperson, came up again during the last Zonal Council meeting on February 27, 2015, where the members again charged the Chairman to officially invite the two, but nothing was done.

Interestingly, those who were alleging that the midwife turned away a woman in labour because she did not shave her private part turned down an invitation to appear before the Council to support their allegations with evidence.

All efforts to reach the said victim on her Tigo number has proved unsuccessful since two weeks now when the number was intercepted, and when further asked of her whereabouts, this reporter was told she had travelled to the Northern Region.

The Zongo Community has, therefore, called on the general public to treat the said allegation with the necessary contempt it deserves, since there was no iota of truth in it.
