1The members of the Volta branch of the Christian Council of Ghana has organised a clean-up exercise at the Ho Municipal Hospital, where they weeded, swept and cleaned gutters as part of a weeklong activity to support efforts being made by the health authorities to promote quality health among the people in the region.

The Christian Council did not only clean the premises of the Municipal Hospital, but also donated 50 bags of cement to support ongoing renovation works due to the poor state of the buildings.

Presenting the items after the two and a half hours clean-up exercise, the President of the Volta Region branch of the Christian Council of Ghana, the Rev. Seth Mawutor, said the presentation clean up activity was to demonstrate holistic Christian life, which is aimed at keeping both the physical and spiritual lives of people in shape at all times.

Rev. Mawutor said it formed part of the core values of the church to ensure that people were in good health at all times, to enable them also embark on a healthy spiritual life. He said, the Christian, as an individual, could not successfully achieve any meaningful life if the spiritual or physical lives were incomplete, hence the continuous effort by the church to provide these essential ingredients for a healthy Christian life.

The man of God said it was the continuous prayer of the church to ensure that people enjoy sound health, and that even when sick, should be attended to in a clean hospital environment.

The Medical Superintendent at the Ho Municipal Hospital, Dr. Lawrence Kumi, who received the items, thanked the Christian Council for the gesture, and said the items came at the right time when the hospital administration had embarked on a comprehensive renovation exercise of dilapidated buildings of the facility, and appealed to other organisations, groups and philanthropists to contribute their quota towards the development of the hospital.

The Medical Superintendent explained that the hospital was using internally generated funds to renovate key structures like the theatre among others, but due to lack of money, the work was progressing at a slow pace, and that the 50 bags provided by the Christian Council would play a key role in the renovation works.

Dr. Kumi also explained further that the hospital administration was much grateful to the Christian Council, because the hospital had to engage casual workers to clean the environment, but the number was not enough, therefore, they were unable to meet the task, adding that occasionally, groups and organisations like the Christian Council help in cleaning the environment of the hospital.

2He said the poor infrastructure situation called for total renovation works on major buildings, a situation, which, he explained, emanated from the fact that the government, over the years, had not provided any financial assistance to the management of the hospital to help renovate the structures.

He appealed to the government to pay attention to the facility, since the internally generated funds were not enough to carry out comprehensive renovation work. The Volta Region President of the Christian Council of Ghana led a prayer session for the quick healing for those on admission, and also for the staff to be guided by the Holy Spirit in the discharge of their duties.
