A three-day Retreat Conference held for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region has come to an end at Benyin in the Jomoro District.
The retreat, organised by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), was aimed at building the capacity of the MMDCEs, and as well sharpen their skills in delivering on their mandate to support the government. The retreat has come at a time MDCE’s in the region were facing criticism for their poor show, particularly, in the area of provision of proper drainage systems.
In Sekondi-Takoradi, for instance, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), led by its Chief Executive, Captain Anthony Cudjoe (Rtd), continues to face criticism for the city’s poor drainage system, which continues to give way for water to spill over streets anytime there is a heavy downpour.
Consequently, the retreat had come as a means of equipping the MMDCEs to find solutions to problems bedevilling their area of jurisdiction. Opening the conference, the Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo, who lauded the RCC for the retreat, said it would go a long way to support the effort of MMDCEs in achieving growth and development.
That apart, it would also promote technical development for MMDA’s.
Regional Minister Aidoo, however, entreated the MMDAs to enforce the bye-laws in their respective assemblies to enhance development. This is because bye-laws were crucial and necessary for achieving development.
The MMDAs should also engage the chiefs and stakeholders to educate them on government policies. The Paramount Chief of Atuabo, Awulae Amihere Kpanyile III, on his part, observed that policy guidance was very necessary for leadership in the country.
