The Sekyere South District Assembly would soon establish a university to add to its chain of infrastructural development. Following the release of a 10-acre parcel of land by the Omanhene of Agona, Nana Anokye II, the Assembly decided to site the proposed Salvation Army University at Bipoa in the district.
The District Chief Executive, Mr. Edward Kusi Ayarkwah, said the Assembly intends to step up infrastructural development worthy of emulation by other districts. He said the Assembly had spread a number of projects across the district to the extent that every community has had its share.
He said the provision of amenities is his topmost priority and mentioned some interventions and ongoing projects being undertaken by his administration as a two-storey administrative block, comprising about 40 offices, which is about 60% complete, a new police block at Agona, and a new girls Senior High School for adoption by the Presbyterian Church.
The school might admit students next academic year. Other ongoing projects include water mechanisation projects at Bipoa, Afamaso, Bedemase and Bipoayaase, with the one at Tano Odumase completed.
The DCE said the Assembly had completed a modern Central Market at Agona, and teachers’ bungalows at Agona, Akrofoso, Abrakaso and Afamaso. Mr. Ayarkwah mentioned that while reshaping of roads at Wiamoase and the surrounding villages are yet to take off, roads at Funifuni, Daban and KKT had been completed.
