Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister getting ready to commission the newly built police stationBy Elizabeth Abbey
The Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), Mr. Isaac Ashai, has commissioned a police head office at Baatsona, near Spintex, to help improve security in the community.
The District/Divisional Office was constructed to prevent crime and violence within the metropolis, so as to enhance the security of the citizens.
This step is also in tandem with the completion of about twenty community-based security posts within the Tema Metropolis.
According to the Chief Executive, the District and Divisional Police head office would guarantee public safety and confidence in the area.
Mr Ashai, while addressing a gathering of chiefs, members of parliament, traditional council members and the press, said the facility would ensure a more comprehensive, accountable, better equipped and professional police force.
The project, he added, was a reflection of the importance the government attached to law and order, and its commitment to ensure that communities are afforded security and protection.
He expressed confidence that the project would improve the security and safety situation within the new Divisional Command created by the police administration, and further “sustain a general peaceful environment, by offering our officers the physical resources to better serve the community.”
Continuing, Mr. Ashai observed that with this project, law enforcement officers would make the policy friendly to the people in the Tema area to help them in their routine duties.
The significance of the District/Divisional police head office is also to improve the development and welfare of the citizenry to boost security.
This would strengthen the socio-economic growth of the communities in particular, and the country at large, which would serve as a way to repose trust in the police at all times.
Mr. Ashai further said the Tema Metropolitan Assembly will do everything possible to ensure the development of the area, and foster its full restoration.
Nii Laryea Afgotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, said he was happy that, at long last, TMA has been able to build a police station for the people, because security is very essential in every community, to enable people to be able to go about their work peacefully.
He commended the TMA boss, stakeholders and other sponsors for helping to build the edifice, saying the police post will go a long way to motivate the people to go about their duties effectively
