Mr. Peter Anarfi-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, last week Wednesday, donated assorted items to the inmates of the Kumasi Children’s Home on behalf of the President and the ruling government, as part of the Republic Day celebration.
The items presented to the home included toiletries, boxes of Key Soap, 20 bags of rice, cartons of sardines, baby’s diapers, sanitisers and cooking oil.
Minister Anarfi-Mensah indicated that children need help and attention in their day to day upbringing, hence the need to guarantee the provision of shelter, clothing and feeding for a brighter future.
He advised the youth, particularly the male child, to be cautious of their relationship with the opposite sex to avoid unwanted pregnancies, which result in abandoning innocent babies.
The caretaker of the home, Madam Victoria Asugnya, commended the Minister for the kind gesture, and added that the items will go a long way in assisting the up-keep of the inmates.
She also pleaded with the Regional Co-ordinating Council to help the home with a school bus to help transport the children to excursions and school programmes.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has presented relief items, including mats, blankets, buckets and student mattresses, to residents of Aboabo, following a devastating flood which hit the area recently.
He also promised the chiefs and residents of Aboabo and surrounding communities that the government will do whatever it could to ensure that the main gutter, which normally overflows during the rains, is de-silted to protect lives and properties.
President Mahama also said a bridge in the locality would be properly constructed to avert the recurrence of flooding in the area.
