The Spiritan University College (SPU), a Catholic Seminary at Ejisu, has marked its 25th Anniversary under the theme: “Spiritan University College, 25 years on, the Impact, the Challenges and the Prospects.”
Rev. Fr. Anthony Anomah, Rector, reaffirmed at the launching of the anniversary that the SPU is a Catholic Seminary with a difference.

According to him, it is a unique seminary of the Catholic Church in Ghana, which is religious and missionary in its orientation, and provides quality, liberal and professional education in an ecumenical, multicultural, multi-national serene and conducive environment.

The Rector said the low enrollment of students into their programmes is largely due to insufficient residential accommodation on campus for lay students, for which the authority is consulting with private investors to partner with the college for the construction of hostel facilities on campus.

He said some investors have agreed to put up a hostel for the college, and that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is being drawn up by lawyers to govern the operations of the hostel, to solve the accommodation problem facing the college.

Rev. Fr. Anthony Anomah said the institute, which began with the initial formation programme for candidates preparing for the priestly and religious missionary life in Congregation of the Holy Spirit, in 2002, raised its academic standard in order to meet the intellectual standard of a higher tertiary institution to award a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Social Sciences.

He commended the sacrifices and contributions of countless number of people who have played significant roles in the development of the college. Sir Amiaku Arching (Supreme Might), Chairman of the occasion, commended the authorities for the tremendous and selfless sacrifices that had brought the college this far.

He said whoever invests in education needs commendation, and encouraged all opinion leaders, churches civil society organisations, and other religious bodies to partner the government in raising the standard of education in the country, since that is the only way we can transform the fortunes of the economy as a country.

Baffuor Osei Hyeaman Brentuo (Otunfuo’s Mmawerehene), as Guest of Honour, noted that efforts by the Catholic Church in the country’s socio economic development was overwhelming, and called on other religious bodies and organisations to emulate them to help us grow as a nation.

He congratulated the leadership of the church, authorities of the institution, management, lecturers, and the non- teaching staff and philanthropists who contributed in diverse ways to the institution all this while in achieving its targeted agenda.
