Mr. Kojo Bonsu, Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has re-affirmed that the Kejetia project would be completed in 12 months.
According to him, the government and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly are putting pragmatic measures in place to ensure that the project is completed on time, and urged residents to rubbish the speculations and perceptions of some individuals that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government intentionally wants to destroy the businesses of residents of the metropolis.
The Mayor, who took queenmothers of the various business unions to the terminal to ascertain progress by the Brazilian contractors since the commencement of the project some months ago, told media men it was appropriate to let the women, as partners, have a feel of the progress of work.
According to him, upon completion of the project, Kumasi would be the only city in the West Africa sub- region to have a market comprising a hospital, water, police station, fire service station, toilet facility and CCTV cameras to monitor every part of the terminal to help arrest criminals and unscrupulous people to make the place safer for the occupants and travellers.
He appealed to the people of Kumasi to be patient with the government and KMA for the successful completion of the project, to bring total comfort to everyone who operates at the place. Mr. Michael Attaogye, Metropolitan Coordinating Director, also expressed his profound gratitude to the people and all stakeholders who contributed in diverse ways to ensure the project took off.
He also pleaded with all residents in the city to support the KMA to deliver on its mandate of developing the city, ensuring the total transformation of the lives, and desist from the act of politicisation of developmental projects,
Nana Abena Atiaa and Nana Yaa Feri Feriwaah, Queenmothers of the Clothes and Yam Sellers associations, on behalf of the traders at the terminal, commended President Mahama, the Mayor of Kumasi and government for such a magnificent edifice for the people of Kumasi. They indicated that there is no different between the project they saw in Brazil and the one being constructed in Kumasi.
