From Richard Owusu-Akyaw

2Stray cattle are steadily roaming the streets of Kumasi, the once Garden City of West Africa, which also serves as the seat of the occupant of the Golden Stool, without any restraint.
Cattle could take over Kumasi if the Metropolitan Assembly does not act swiftly to arrest the situation.
Over the last two weeks, The Chronicle has observed stray cattle roaming and grazing along official roads, including the ever-busy Accra-Kumasi Highway.

1The animals, whose ownership are not known, move in no particular direction, and are seen everywhere – on pavements, middle of roads and at road intersections. At Asafo, a suburb of Kumasi, pedestrians were compelled to cross the Accra-Kumasi Highway on seeing three cows approach in their direction.

3In another incident, two cows were seen grazing and roaming in the middle of Kwaku Mensah Avenue in Asem, Kumasi, on the eve of Easter Sunday. A resident of the area, who sells recharge cards along the stretch, complained to The Chronicle that sometimes he has to leave the scene when he sees these animals approaching his sales point.

He said besides the threat on lives, the animals pollute the environment, easing themselves anywhere, thus making the streets smelly with cow dung.  Reached on phone, the Public Relations Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), said the assembly was unaware of this development, giving the assurance that the Environmental Unit of the assembly will come and address the worrying cattle menace.
