DCOP Kofi Boakye, Rev. Mrs. Kudalor and Eugene Antwi,The Ashanti Regional branch of the Police Wives Association (POLWA), in collaboration with the wives of personnel from other sister security agencies in the region, last Friday, embarked on a peace march towards the November 7, presidential and parliamentary elections. The march was led by Rev. Mrs. Charity Kudalor, National President of the Association, and wife of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. John Kudalor.

Addressing the women, Rev. Mrs. Charity Kudalor called on every individual to help maintain peace before, during, and after the elections, by embracing peace, since children, women, and the disabled would suffer most when there is a political upheaval.

She stressed that peace is a cohesion of national development that must be worked for, devoid of evil intentions, and entreated all the wives of the various security agencies to continue supporting their husbands to work, devoid of partisan politics, as their constitutional mandate demands of them.

Police wives on peace march,The wife of the IGP also charged members of the association to tolerate one another and avoid party politics at the barracks and their husbands’ work places, reminding them to live by their core motto, which urges them to “Think peace, eat peace and drink peace.” She also pleaded with the media to always strive to disseminate the truth to make the nation violence free, especially, before, during, and after the elections.

DCOP Kofi Boakye, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, also challenged the media to do whatever they could to ensure that “we have peaceful elections this year.” According to him, about 60% of what it takes to ensure peaceful elections depends on the media, and entreated the fraternity, in their own capacity, to always differentiate fact from fiction in their reportage, and be devoid of exaggeration, allegations and sensationalism.

The Regional Commander noted that “it is obvious that as we are getting closer to the elections, unfounded allegations would be proffered, hence the need for the media to exercise professionalism to substantiate fact from fiction, in order not to escalate tensions that could lead to political violence.”

Mr. Eugene Boakye Antwi, New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Subin Constituency, observed that the peace and tranquility we all yearn for, as a nation, depend on every individual’s role, and pleaded with the media to be more professional and avoid unnecessary sensationalism in their stories. He commended the wife of the IGP for organising the peace walk to promote peace in our political landscape.
