The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosome-Freho, Kwame Adarkwah, has asked Ghanaians to join hands with the Electoral Commission (EC), the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), and the security agencies in their mandate to ensure transparent, free and fair elections on November 7, this year.
Kwame Adarkwah, who was addressing the First Ordinary Meeting of the assembly at Asiwa, district capital, said there was the need for peace to prevail before, during, and after the elections to avoid irreparable damages.

DCE Adarkwah highlighted a number of development projects the assembly had undertaken in the past years, such as roads, health facilities, schools, electricity, poverty reduction, agriculture, waste management and environmental sanitation. He appealed to the assembly members to help maintain good sanitation and environment in their electoral areas by initiating measures that would go a long way to compel individuals to help tidy their surroundings.

Mr. Adarkwah said although the district has experienced some progress, in terms of socio-economic development, it is still confronted with other challenges in the areas of education, health, agriculture, road network, and staff accommodation among others, saying that assembly members have crucial roles to play, in terms of addressing the socio-economic issues confronting the district, to improve the wellbeing of the people.

According to him, even though the government was making efforts to make the assembly vibrant by providing them with the needed logistics, there was also the need for them to play their part, by supporting the assembly in the area of revenue mobilisation to complement the government’s efforts.

He noted that the assembly can solely embark on massive developmental projects without necessarily waiting for assistance from the government if importance is attached to revenue mobilisation. Mr. Adarkwah said the assembly members would, therefore, need to complement the efforts of the staff to generate more revenue through property rate collection to fund development projects, and stop the over-reliance on the District Assembly Common Fund and other sources of funding from central government.
