From Issah Alhassan, Kumasi
A leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has told The Chronicle that last Saturday’s fire incident at the regional office of the party was an ‘inside job’.
According to him, there was no need to blame opponents of the party for the incident, stressing that he suspects some disgruntled members of the party must have carried out the act. The NDC regional office at Afful Nkwanta was on Saturday torched, resulting in a fire outbreak which destroyed items, including stationery.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, Mr. Kwame Zu, has accused their political opponents, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), of being behind the act, insisting, “the NDC is not suspecting the NPP for torching its office, but we are actually blaming them of being responsible.”
Kwame Zu’s made the accusation despite stating that the party had set up its own investigations into the matter.
Already, his colleague on the other side of the political divide, Mr. Samuel Pyne, who is the Regional Secretary of the NPP, has described the allegation as hogwash and unfounded, accusing the ruling party of deliberately setting its own office on fire, just to play the ‘victim game”.
But, even before the security agencies in the region complete investigations into the matter, an insider within the NDC has exonerated the opposition party, stating that the NPP was not responsible for the unfortunate incident.
“We can’t blame the NPP for this; I think it’s our own men who did it; the NPP must be left out of this,” the NDC leading member, who pleaded anonymity, insisted.
