2Hundreds of deprived children and widows in the Zongo communities of the Kumasi Metropolis celebrated this year’s Eid festivities with much joy and excitement, thanks to the management of Zuria FM, a Kumasi-based radio station.
The beneficiary children and widows, numbering more than 1,000 drawn from adjourning communities, were provided with Sala clothes, assorted drinks, and food items, which were mobilised during the Ramadan (Fasting) period from listeners of the station, and philanthropists in the Metropolis.

The presentation, which is an annual activity, forms part of the station’s corporate social responsibility, aimed at giving back to society, particularly the Zongo communities, for their continuous support and patronage of the station during its years of existence.

The Chief Executive Officer of Zuria FM, Alhaji Haruna Abu, told journalists in an interview that the station owed it a duty to support the orphans and the needy, in order to bring smiles on their faces during special occasions like the Eid celebration.

He said poverty and child vulnerability were very rampant in the Zongo communities, stressing that it was worrying that many well-to-do individuals in such communities often fail to appreciate this unfortunate situation and invest in them.

Alhaji Abu, therefore, disclosed that his long term objective was to establish a school that will provide educational opportunities to these underprivileged children.

The General Manager of Zuria FM, Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Shola, emphasised the fact that it is the duty of Islamic-based organisations, and those blessed with wealth, to support the underprivileged, as instructed by Allah, through Prophet Mohammed (SAW) – “That whoever feeds the orphan shall enjoy together with him in Paradise.”
