The Mansoman Senior High School, at Manso Atwere in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, has held its second homecoming and fundraising ceremony to raise funds for the expansion of facilities at the school.
The theme of the occasion was: “Re-defining Mansoman Senior High School: the role of an Old Student.” The Headmaster, Mr. Benjamin K. Baah, said with the projected increase in the student population, which currently stands at 837, there was the need to expand the existing facilities, and mentioned the need for boys’ dormitory and additional teachers’ quarters, and extension of electricity supply to the new teachers’ quarters.

He also appealed to the government to consider supplying the school with a new school bus and a pick-up, since constant repairs of the old vehicles is draining the school’s scarce funds.

The District Chief Executive for Amansie West, Mr. Alex K. Bonsu, who graced the ceremony, called for concerted efforts on the part of stakeholders to redeem the falling standards of education.

He appealed to the Headmaster and his staff, Board of Directors, Parent Teacher Association (PTA), traditional authorities and Old Students Association to consider providing infrastructure.

Mr. Bonus indicated that the district will benefit from one senior high school under the Community Day Secondary School programme by the government, aside over 10 Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects and the distribution of free school uniforms.

The DCE also disclosed that the district is privileged to benefit from the Secondary Education Improvement Programme (SEIP) at Esaase and Adubia SHS out of 125 schools nationwide, and hoped the projects will help with the accommodation of more teachers on campus, in order to improve upon supervision, teaching, and learning in the beneficiary schools.

According to him, the District Assembly Composite Budget continues to give high priority to the education sector, which took over 60% of previous budgets.

The Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta Constituency, Mrs. Grace Addo, pledged to provide 100 bags of cement to support projects in the school, while the local Council of Churches of Manso Atwere, led by its Chairman, Very Rev Charles K. Sangmoah, Superintendent Minister of the Manso Atwere Methodist Church, donated 50 bags of cement, with the Amansie West District Assembly also donating 50 bags of cement and GH¢1,000.

Mr. Augustine Opoku, an old student of the school now a Manager at the Santasi branch of the Amansie West Rural Bank, cautioned students to desist from any form of social vices, including sexual promiscuity, stealing, occultism, among others, because they had the tendency to derail their education and future.

Mr. Francis Obeng, an old student of the school and now the Assembly Member for Manso Atwere, who presided over the function, called on all old students to contribute to the development of their alma mater.
