An Accra-based environmental non-governmental organisation (NGO), Van-Argar Services Foundation, which specialises in the collection and recycling of plastic materials, has mounted nine traffic direction signs at Effiduase/Asokore in the Sekyere East District.
The branded traffic direction signs, with shelter pads, were sponsored by Multi Pro-Private Company Limited, sole importer of Indomie Instant Noodles in Ghana.
The stands, sited at selected vantage points, are to aid the Motor Traffic Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service and traffic wardens in their quest to bring sanity on our roads, while protecting school children and other pedestrians.
The stands have been mounted at the Adventist Preparatory School, American Co-operative School, Tomhell Preparatory School, Kumawu Junction, Asokore Methodist, T.I. Ahmadiyya Girl’s SHS Junction, Presbyterian Primary School, and two at Ahmadiyya Primary School.
Madam Esther Vanderpuije, Executive Director of Van-Argar Services Foundation, said a research conducted by her outfit indicated that MTTU personnel and traffic wardens performed their duties in the scorching sun, which could be hazardous to their health.
She expressed her appreciation to Multi Pro-Private Company Limited for sponsoring the project by providing the traffic stands, and also donating a quantity of Indomie Instant Noodles, which were distributed to school children.
Madam Vanderpuije also disclosed that zebra crossings would be marked at the siting of the traffic direction signs to enhance easy crossing by pedestrians.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Solomon Adjei Mensah, was grateful to Madam Vanderpuije and her NGO for including the district in their programme.
He also commended the sponsors of the project, and assured that the government was ever ready to work with private organisations.
The District Police Commander, C.A. Koosono, also praised the NGO for coming to their aid, saying it would motivate his personnel to work extra hard.
