Kantamanto Amonu XI, Omanhen of the Anomabo Traditional Area, on Saturday repeated a call on the government for the establishment of a Fisheries College at Buranamua in Anomabo, which was promised by the late President John Evans Atta Mills, to attract more people and investors to the area.
The Omanhen, who made the call in his welcome address at a durbar to climax the week-long annual Okyir festival of the chiefs and people of Anomabo, regretted the current state of the project, which is still at the foundation stage.
He also advised the youth in the area to eschew negative utterances, laziness, theft and immorality, and rather embrace hard work, generosity and good human relationships, which are the virtues that are cherished by the elders of the land.
The Omanhen used the opportunity to appeal to the citizens to keep clean environments, and also wash hands with soap and running water before eating and after visiting nature’s call to avoid contracting cholera, which is spreading at a fast rate in the country.
He explained that “Okyir”, meaning abomination, implies that it is abomination for any individual to behave in any unacceptable manner which could affect the community in a negative way, and it was therefore necessary to bring to the notice of the present generation what the forefathers abhorred, he added.
The Okyir Festival is celebrated every year in the second week of October to remind the people of Anomabo and its surrounding areas of the need to stay away from wrongdoing and the acts that tarnish the name of the traditional area.
