The two contractors working on the storm drain project at Tepa, Messrs Mubary Company Limited and Joblenlo Company Limited, have jointly appealed to the government to release funds for the implementation of the storm drain at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District of the region.

Even the though sod-cutting ceremony for the GH¢1,398,464 project was performed in April 2013, all efforts to get funds released by central government to commence work have failed.

According to the contractors, they are currently faced with the problem of repaying loans they took from their bankers for mobilisation.

The Managing Director for Jodenblo Company Limited complained that in the face of lack of funds, the SG Bank has seized some of his construction equipment, thereby making it difficult for the company to undertake other jobs.

According to him, they are worried because the project, which would have taken the two construction companies barely six months to complete, had been stalled for more than a year and a half after the sod-cutting ceremony.

He told this paper that they had paid for the sand and stones, and if given the construction sum, would be moved to the site to start work immediately.

When the Ashanti File contacted the Member of Parliament for Ahafo-Ano North, Akwasi Adusei, who was part of the sod-cutting ceremony, he said it was a central government project, and, therefore, not his priority.

According to him, the road from Anyinasuso to Betiako, his hometown, was more important than the Tepa storm drain project.

Adusei had, at the sod-cutting ceremony, expressed appreciation to the government for the bold step it had taken to address the drainage problem confronting the people of Tepa since 1996.
