The girls display their padsGlobal Shippers Hub (GSH), a shipping firm, has donated 50 sanitary pads to pupils of Okyerekrom Kokobra in the Ejisu Municipality.

The Ashanti Regional Head of GSH, Ms. Rosalin Abigail Kyere-Nartey, said the donation was part of the company’s observation of the Global Dignity Day, and hoped the pads would boost their confidence during their menstrual cycles.

According to her, the donation was a pilot project being undertaken by GSH to study how effective it would facilitate girl-child education.

Ms. Kyere-Nartey disclosed that the GSH plans to put up a plant to manufacture sanitary pads for girls who are in school and cannot afford the cost.

Madame Gladys Appiah, Headmistress of the school, noted that the non-availability of sanitary pad makes girls feel uncomfortable when they are in their menstrual cycle.

According to her, absenteeism was rampant during this period of the girl-child’s education, thus drawing back academic excellence.

The Headmistress disclosed that some ladies were not conversant with the use of sanitary pads, and that the donation had afforded them the opportunity to teach its uses at home and in school.

She, therefore, urged parents to teach their daughters how to handle such situations.
