Perseus Mining Company Limited, based at Ayanfuri in the Central Region, has presented a cheque for GH¢33,750 to authorities of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) to cover the school fees of 50 students from communities in the company’s catchment area.
The amount is to cover the first term fees of the beneficiaries, who form the second batch of needy students to benefit from the company’s corporate social responsibility programmes, aimed at supporting the education of youth in five catchment communities within the Central and Western regions.
The beneficiaries were drawn from Ayanfuri, Gyaaman and Fobinso in the Central Region, and Nkonya and Abenabena in the Western Region.
Forty students, who formed the first batch of the beneficiaries, have already graduated from the KTI after receiving training in various employable skills.
Presenting the cheque to authorities of the school, the Board Chairman of Perseus Mining Company, Nana Prah Agyensaimu VI, said the company sees education as the most important investment to enhance the socio-economic development of the people.
He said, so far, hundreds of youth had benefited from the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, including the provision of social amenities such as water, school infrastructure and electricity amongst others.
Nana Prah Agyensaimu VI gave the assurance that the company will continue to cater for the educational expenses of the beneficiary students until the completion of their courses, and, therefore, charged them to make good use of the opportunity in order to justify the huge investment made in them.
The Assistant Vice Principal in charge of Academics, Mr. John Ankrah, commended the company for the kind gesture, adding that the investment in the education of the youth was a laudable idea which must be embraced by all well-meaning Ghanaians.
He also called on the students to take their academic works serious, in order to act as ambassadors for their colleagues and residents in the five mining communities who are beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme.
Mr. Ankrah said most of the beneficiaries of the scheme, in the past, achieved excellent academic records, and expressed the optimism that the present ones will do same.
