The Brong-Ahafo File’s investigations has revealed that, the lives of Police personnel, families and suspects held at the Donkro Nkwanta police station in the Nkoranza district of Brong-Ahafo Region are in grave danger due to the dilapidated nature of the building.
During a visit to the station, it was observed that the situation is so bad that the slightest fall of rains with thunderstorms could raze down the building.
Interestingly, the deplorable police station is situated in the middle of the Donkro Nkwanta Township and at the entrance of the road where many government officials and prominent leaders among other senior officers of the service drive past regularly.
It was also, gathered that the building which was built some years ago, has it roof leaking badly that, whenever it rains the whole station is flooded with drops of rain water.
On several occasions, some of the officers had to abandon their offices, as the roofs leak badly.
According to an officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, the situation is beyond the station’s powers and that they find it very difficult to deal with it.
”Whenever it rains, the whole charge office and the cells become flooded to the point that officers have to handcuff suspects and guide them until the water is collected or sometimes left for days until the water runs dry,” he lamented.
The officer further revealed that, the place needs urgent rehabilitation of both the unpainted building and the station is also under staffing.
The station has only four officers including the Chief Inspector of the station.
They have reported the situation to the authorities but are yet to have any favourable response from their superior or whoever may be concerned.
