New Kyidomhene Nana Asumadu Sakyi takes his turn to swearFrom Sebastian R. Freiku

The Kumawu Traditional Council has admitted two more kingmakers as members with the installation of Ohenenana Basoa Aboagye II and Nana Kwabena Asumadu Sakyi as the new Kyidomhene and Ankobeahene respectively.

Kyidomhene Nana Aboagye is an Accra-based businessman, while Nana Asumadu Sakyi is a retired educationist, who happens to be the teacher of the Kumawuhene.

The new kingmakers, who have since sworn the oath of allegiance to the Omanhene of Kumwau, Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, have thus filled the vacancies following the demise of their predecessors.

In another development, Nana Okyere Baffuor has been elevated from caretaker status (Odikro) to Chief of Amanfrom, for his commitment and dedication to the Kumawu Traditional Council and swore to that effect.

Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, Omanhene of Kumawu, advised them to serve in humility, and urged the chiefs to be dedicated and committed to their roles in ensuring that the people live in peace and stability for the development of the Kumawu Traditional Area.

He advised them to explore their talents to preserve the traditional and cultural values and norms to help develop the area.

The Kumawuhene advised that chiefs resident abroad should consider relocating back home, to enable them effectively execute their roles and functions at the Traditional Councils.

Barima Tweneboa Kodua warned members of the council against absenteeism at meetings. He has also frowned on unnecessary litigation, and asked that all disputes before the law courts should be withdrawn for amicable settlement at the council level.

The Kumawuhene directed that all those who have acquired lands in the area should regularise their documents by submitting them for verification and approval. He hinted that a Stool Lands Secretariat would be established at the Traditional Council to protect all stool lands.

The Kumawuhene gave the assurance that with the cooperation of the chiefs, development would be evenly spread to all communities in the traditional area.

The Queenmother of Kumawu, Nana Abena Serwaa Amponsah, advised the new chiefs to be truthful, honest and transparent in their dealings with the Kumawuhene, to effect the desired transformation in the area.

She condemned any acts of insubordination on the part of chiefs, in an attempt to derail the developmental agenda of the traditional council.

Meanwhile, Nana Duffuor Abeam and Nana Appiah Effah Kaning, Abaasehene and Ahenenananomhene respectively of the Kumawu Traditional Area, have renewed their allegiance to the Kumawuhene.

The two sub-chiefs, who are resident in London, could not make it to the installation of the new Kumawuhene on October 30.

Nana Duffuor Abeam, the 76-year-old Abaasehene, a retired insurance consultant in London, pledged to support the Omanhene to protect all landed properties of the Kumawu Stool, as well as promote education in his community in support of the Omanhene’s vision.

The Abaasehene also plans to embark on a crusade against teenage pregnancy in the area.

Nana Effa Kaning, on his part, gave the assurance that he would live up to expectations in the execution of his role as head of the royals, and foster unity among colleague royals towards the developmental agenda of the new Chief.

Meanwhile, the new Kumawuhene, Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, has dissolved all committees at the Kumawu Traditional Council, and called for the institution of new ones soon after the reports of the various committees had been duly studied.
