KMA contracts Google to provide fibre optic services

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has signed a contract with internet giant Google to provide service at the Rotary Park currently under construction in the Metropolis.
The Chief Executive Officer of the KMA, Kojo Bonsu, who announced this, disclosed that a contract had been signed between the KMA and internet giant Google to provide wireless internet at the park called “Wifi Park”.
He said the completion of the Kumasi Rotary Park in March this year will see a fibre optic cable from the leading internet giant provider to boost internet services at the there, as part of the Assembly’s efforts at providing speedy wireless (WIFI) internet services at the Rotary Park.
Kojo Bonsu noted the Google contract with KMA was not a joke, and also that a number of projects for the metropolis will soon be delivered.
On features of the park, the Mayor of Kumasi indicated that the park had an outdoor gym, children’s area, Wifi Park, and a lot more.
Kojo Bonsu noted that the KMA will dialogue with all stakeholders, including the media and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), on the need to redevelop the Kumasi Central Market and the Kejetia Lorry Terminal to meet modern requirements.
He said this will help the public, especially market women, to understand why the market has to be pulled down for rebuilding without any misunderstanding.
According to him, a delegation, comprising technocrats, the media, GPRTU, and hawkers will be sent to Brazil to have a look at the drawings of the said market.
He revealed that the project would be in three phases, and that the first one would take off soon in the area opposite the Kumasi Zoological Garden.
The Mayor stated that the KMA is poised to re-brand Kumasi to attract more investors into the Metropolis, citing the completion of the runway and aeronautical works at the Kumasi Airport as examples.
Kojo Bonsu further noted that the KMA had tendered in adverts for interested firms to apply for World Bank projects, which will see three markets being built at Asawasi, Tafo and Atonsu Agogo.
