About 37 out of the 42 members of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to retain Robert Kempes Ofosuware, the incumbent Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), to enable him continue with the good work he is doing in the area.
According to them, the Metropolis had never experienced such phenomenal development and improvement, hence the need for the President to retain him.
The assembly members are not happy that as of now, President Mahama had not been able to nominate an MCE, saying: “This is seriously retarding development in the Metropolis.”
Addressing a section of the Tema press on Tuesday, the Presiding Member of the TMA, Romeo Elikplim Akahoho, disclosed that he was 100 percent in support of the special appeal being made to the President by the assembly members.
He said: “Kempes Ofosuware, during his four year tenure in office as the MCE, brought unity and team work to bear on the business of the assembly.”
He noted: “Because of the leadership style of the MCE, the agenda of the house, over the period, proceeded in unison, devoid of partisanship politics and rancor, as recorded in other jurisdictions.”
Mr. Akahoho revealed that the MCE had kept faith with the people of Tema and worked extremely hard to set the Tema Metropolis on the path, saying: “We, at the grassroots level, can readily point to the massive improvement in the road sector throughout the Metropolis.”
He further noted: “The Mayor has adopted an all-inclusive approach to governance, and this is largely appreciated and applauded by all of us.”
He reiterated his commitment and that of his colleagues on the floor of the House, saying they were prepared and willing to work with Robert Kempes Ofosuware, for which reason they were appealing to President Mahama to allow the man to continue with the good job he had started, which is gradually, but steadily transforming Tema to its original status.
