Sekyere Kumawu DCE Cuts Sod For Projects

 Samuel AsiamahThe Sekyere Kumawu District Chief Executive (DCE), Samuel Asiamah, has cut the sod for the commencement of a number of development projects.
The projects include two CHPS Compounds at Akrofoso and Temate, a 3-unit bedroom quarters for the District Police Commander at Kumawu, 2-unit pre-school block for Woraso Presby and Nkwanta D/A Primary schools, and a 3-unit classroom block with an office and a store for the Bahankra Junior High School (JHS).

The projects are to be funded from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), and are to be completed before the end of this year. Elders of the beneficiary communities have expressed their appreciation to the government for its untiring efforts to improve the living conditions of residents in the district.

At Akrofoso, the Chief of the town, Nana Bour Bososmpra Asante, on behalf of the people, commended the government for the provision of social amenities.

He said under the present government the town has been connected to the national grid, the major road which passes through the town has been tarred, and they also have access to potable water .Nana Ofori Amponsah, the Sanaahene of the Kumawu Traditional Area, was full of praise for the government, as it has initiated a number of major development projects that will go to improve the lot of the people.

Nana Amponsah mentioned the construction of the 120-bed capacity district hospital and the 3K water supply project, which comprises Kumawu, Konongo and Kwahu Ridge.

Mr. Samuel Asiamah stressed that when completed, the projects will not only contribute to good health and education, but will also add to quality life as well, and appealed to the beneficiary communities to co-operate with the contractors to speed up work for the early completion of the projects.

He also cautioned the contractors against any shoddy work. In another development, the Minister of Health, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, has cut the sod for the construction of a 120-bed capacity hospital for the Sekyere Kumawu District at Kumawu.

It follows the signing of a $175 million contract for the delivery of six new district hospitals between the Ghana Government and NMS Infrastructure Limited. The other beneficiary districts are Abetifi, Dodowa, Fomena, Garu Tempane and Sekondi.

The Kumawu Hospital will have facilities such as theatres, recovery wards, an outpatient department, mortuary, consulting rooms, and accommodation for the staff of the hospital.

Mr. Fred Hsu, Deputy Chairman of NMS Infrastructure Limited, the contracting firm, has indicated the company will do everything possible to complete the project by the end of 2015.  He said the construction of the hospital will help create jobs for the local people, and impact positively on the local economy.
