Rehabilitation Of Akyeremade Community Centre Commences

Obaapanin Nana Nyantakyiwaa Sarpomaa of Akyeremade, near Kokofu in the Bekwai Municipality, has cut the sod for the commencement of the rehabilitation of the Akyeremade Community Centre.
The GH¢150,000 project, to be funded through contributions, donations and fundraising by citizens home and abroad, would be executed in two phases and is expected to be completed by next year. The sod-cutting ceremony also coincided with the inauguration of the Building Committee, which is entrusted with the execution of the Community Centre rehabilitation project.

Nana Sarpomaa disclosed that a plan had been drawn to develop the community in its resolve to raise its image and ensure that Akyeremade assumes the role of the gateway to Amansie. She said  the Amansie Kente Festival has, since  2011, been instituted alongside  the Amansie Kente  Beauty Pageant to promote the local kente industry, for which  showrooms are to be sited at Akyeremade and Bekwai to showcase the various Kente products.

Obaapanin Sarpomaa indicated that the Kwahu Easter festivities originated from Akyeremade, hence the need to revive the annual Easter meetings of the people and restore the glorious past of the community towards development. Nana Sarpomaa indicated that promotion of education would be given priority, and appealed to the indigenes to unite for the development the community.

Meanwhile, Nana Sarpomaa has received the keys of a KIA Rio vehicle as first prize for the Miss Akyeremade 2016 Beauty Pageant. Mr. Patrick Adu Gyamfi, CEO of Kumasi-based Century Investments Limited, producers of Century Sachet Water, who donated the KIA Rio, said it was his personal contribution towards the restoration of the traditional values of the area.

He announced plans to undertake the construction of a recreational centre for the community and the surrounding area. The project, to be named Century Village, would serve as a source of learning for Ashanti culture and restore societal values.
