A new police station, built by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre West, Mr. Owuraku Aidoo, from his share of the MP’s Common Fund, has been commissioned at Ankaase in the Afigya Kwabre District.
It is expected to strengthen security challenges in the community and surrounding areas in the district, including communities like Ankaase, Heman, Ejuratia, Mpobi and Aboasu. The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, performed the commissioning of the facility last week.
DCOP Kofi Boakye commended the MP for assisting the police administration to live up to its task in ensuring that there is peace and order in the areas. He called for a partnership of individual philanthropists and other organisation with the police administration in the provision of logistics and accommodation to help them protect the citizenry and their properties around the clock.
He stated that it was the vision of the police administration to site headquarters in every district to coordinate the various police stations to ensure peace and security. The police boss further cautioned against the attitude of the youth attacking police personnel and stations, and reminded residents that on no account should they take the law into their hands and mete out instant justice to police personnel, because it could be very dangerous to attack the police for whatever reason.
Mr. Kaakyire Oppong Kyekyeku, District Chief Executive, also commended the MP for using part of his common fund to build the police station to help maintain peace and order in the area. He gave the assurance that the government will continue to partner stakeholders to provide the basic needs of the people to improve their lives in the areas of security, education and health.
MP Owuraku Aidoo pleaded with nananom and all the residents to assist the police in giving them total protection to enhance development. The MP appealed to the District Assembly to provide residential accommodation for the local police personnel, to ensure total peace and order in the areas of their jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, Messrs Wescos, a construction firm, has donated a motorbike to the personnel to help them in their patrol duties at night, and to respond promptly to emergency calls.
