An iconic Ghanaian Choral composer based in the United States of America, George Mensah Essilfie (GME), in collaboration with the Tesano Baptist Church, last Tuesday donated a sum of GH¢6,000 to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The amount forms part of proceed realized at the ‘Otomfo’ Choral concert show held in Accra. The money is to be used to renovate three bathrooms of the hospital. The donation was jointly done by George Mensah Essilfie and Rev. Kweku Hazel.
The choral concert was held in collaboration with the Tesano Baptist Church marking the Church 40th anniversary. Choirs that featured in the concert included the Accra Youth Choir, the Harmonious Chorale, African Youth Choir, Wesleyan Symphonic and the host Choir, the Tesano Baptist Choir.
The Special Guest of Honour was Emeritus Professor Johaness Kwabena Nketsiah. On the day of the chorale concert, compositions credited to the Ghanaian iconic composer were performed at the Otomfo concert. GME is known for his mastery over compositions. Holding MA in music compositions, GME has hundreds of choral compositions to his credit including r-arrangement.
GME is known for his enviable contribution to the choral industry in Ghana and Africa.
In 1994, his piece, ‘Let peace be on earth’ was selected among 400 entries across the world by the United Nation in conjunction with the Word Peace Prayer Organisation to have won a world award.
