1The Head Teacher of the Abaam A.M.E Zion Basic School in the Kwaebibirim District of the Eastern Region, Mr. Lawrence Dankwa, has appealed to the government and philanthropists to, as matter of urgency, come to their aid to construct a nursery and kindergarten block.
The school, whose motto is “Aim High”, is currently teaching start-up pupils in an open structure, with its accompanying leakages when it rains, and is also used by stray animals in the night.

The Headmaster described the situation as unfortunate and de-motivating for start-up pupils to share such deplorable structures with animals, adding that all efforts made by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the District Directorate of Education for a new structure have been fruitless.

Mr. Darkwa, who paid glowing tribute to the leadership of the school’s PTA, said the primary department, which was also in a bad state, was timely rescued by the PTA, leading to effective teaching and learning.

Mr. Darkwa also expressed concern over the invasion of non-denominational teachers in the school, which, he said, is not promoting the Zion Church doctrine due to the absence of training colleges of the church.

A.M.A Zoin schoolHe said he is the only teacher who worships with the church in the missionary school, adding that most of the students come from other religions, which, he said, is not supporting the Zion Church to win more of their own youth.

However, he called on the church to change their current hymns, which are written in fanti language, to other languages to teach pupils during school worship period.
