The Assembly Member for Nyamekrom electoral area, a farming community in the New Juaben Municipality, Peter Kweku Konor, has charged the electorate to take good care of their health.
According to the Assembly Member, even though money is a difficult commodity to come by, health is more important, since you could have money, but a bad health condition would not give you chance to enjoy it.
To this end, he called on the electorate to endeavour to make time out of their busy working schedules to have periodic medical check-ups, eat well and take a sound rest in order to live healthily.
The Nyamekrom Assembly Member made the call during a health screening exercise organised in conjunction with Metason Health Limited, a private herbal clinic located at Trom in Koforidua.
The Assembly Member, who expressed gratitude to the medical team, reiterated that, for most of the people, the exercise was a great opportunity for them to know their health status for the first time.
He added that the screening would also assist the people, both young and old, to know their blood groups, as well as be educated on how to keep healthy, since the area is one of the developing communities in the municipality.
That notwithstanding, Konor said the people of Nyamekrom lacked potable drinking water, and that most of the surrounding communities drink water from wells and streams, which exposes them to waterborne disease.
He, therefore, appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations and other corporate bodies to come to their aid and provide potable water to promote good health among the people.
The exercise, which included screening for malaria, hypertension, diabetes, blood pressure, blood groups, body temperature, typhoid and other respiratory-related diseases, attracted over 200 people.
Prior to the screening, Dr. Vincent Fianko educated the community members on relevant health topics, including knowing your blood group and the proper foods to eat, the need to take prescribed medicines, and attending regular medical check-ups.
He said most people easily get ill because of ignorance about their health status, especially knowing the blood group which they belong to.
