The Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem Municipal Chief Executive, Ishmail Zagoon-Saeed has advised Muslim youth to eschew all forms of negative activities that could portray the religion as violent in the November general elections.
According to the Chief Executive, the 30 days of fasting by Muslims across the country, which is aimed at cleansing them of their sins, drawing them closer to Allah and inculcating the fear of Allah in them, must be seen in their daily undertakings with the outside world.
Zagoon-Saeed gave the advice when he joined scores of Muslims at the Elmina SSNIT Flat Park to observe this year’s Eid ul Fitr prayer to thank Allah for taking them through 30 days of the Ramadan fast.
The Chief Executive, who is also a Muslim, tasked his colleagues, especially the youth, to understand that election is simply about exercising their franchise through democratic means, but not to perpetrate violence.
He stressed that the youth in particular must endeavour to tolerate divergent opinions and opposing views from others who belong to different political parties to enable peace to prevail.
Hon. Zagoon advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used as a conduit for committing political violence before, during and after the November polls.
He appealed to Muslims to eschew selfishness and greed, adding that the importance of the Eid ul Fitr could be fully achieved when peace and tranquility is allowed to take a centre stage in their lives, especially in the forthcoming elections.
He further pleaded with the Muslims to ensure that they keep their environment clean as well as embrace proper sanitation practices in order to prevent the outbreak of diseases in their respective communities.
