Without any timely intervention to rescue school children of Amanase Aboabo Junior High School (JHS) in the Ayensuano district, many lives would be lost in the coming days. This follows the visible danger greeting teachers and students of the school.
Even though the blood-thirsty monster of a classroom block is staring at them, the leaders are taking a nap in their comfortably padded office chairs waiting to present relief items to the school, when disaster finally strikes and lives are lost.
The school, which was constructed with sludge in 1982, through communal labour, has become a death trap to innocent children who are desired to acquire formal education.
The structure has been supported with sticks at its corners to prevent it from falling. Aside the fact that it cannot boast of windows and doors, some parts of its aluminium roofing sheets are ripping off.
The decision to either renovate or reconstruct the facility, leaves much to be desired as numerous petitions written to the Assembly by the chief and people of the area, have fallen on deaf ears.
As if that is not enough, the only bridge which was constructed from coverts, linking the area and Koforidua, is also showing its readiness to cause harm to users because of its bad state.
For the road network of the area, it is nothing to write home about. Speaking to the Eastern file during the visit, the chief of the area, Nana Obiri Akan Asiedu, called on corporate organizations, both home and abroad, to come to their aid, so nothing terrible happens.
According to him, little or no sign of concern has been shown by the District Assembly to save the people of the area, adding that was fed-up with the gross disrespect shown to him and his people.
