The Rock of Ages International School at Sepe Dote in Kumasi has organised its first graduation ceremony, with a call on government to assist private schools, as they pay immense contributions towards improving education in the country.
The Proprietor of the school, Mr. Isaac Boadi, lamented that private educational institutions providing basic education to pupils are reeling under lots of pressure, and would, therefore, require some form of support from the government.
In his view, the government can support in the areas of the provision of basic educational materials such as textbooks and desks amongst others, to help subsidise the cost being incurred.
He contended that the notion that private schools are operating on profit is not wholly true, adding that school authorities are always concerned about poor parents, most of who cannot afford the cost of catering for their wards.
The Rock of Ages International School was established in 2003 with fourteen pupils, but now boasts of more than 700 students, from crèche to Junior High School.
Mr. Boadi said the school had distinguished itself from other neighbouring schools in the field of discipline and academics, adding that the school had achieved 100 per cent passes in the Basic Education Certificate Examination over the years, with the students gaining admission into reputable senior high schools.
He stated that the school has state-of-the-art learning gadgets, as well as modern accommodation facilities to house students living far away from the premises.
A total of 36 students, made up of 23 girls and 13 boys, graduated with distinction, whilst 71 students were also promoted from Primary Six to Junior High School.
Mr. Boadi advised parents to pay attention to their wards whilst at home, and make sure they concentrate on their books, instead of engaging in unnecessary social activities.
The Headmaster, Mr. Richard Dankwah, said the school would continue to introduce more sophisticated approaches to teaching and learning, in order to improve its record. The event was attended by old students, government officials, chiefs and pupils of the school.
