A police station has been commissioned for Ahenkro and surrounding communities to help bring crime to the minimum in the area.
The facility was built by Nana Ahenkro-Sei, Chief of Ahenkro, and his elders, as their contribution to partnering the police in fighting crime in the vicinity. The Chief appealed to the beneficiary police personnel to live up to expectation and help reduce crime in the area.
Mr. Kaakyere Oppong Kyekyeku, District Chief Executive (DCE), commended Nananom, for the kind gesture in supporting the police and the District Assembly, pointing out that development was about partnering the government to deliver the aspirations of the populace.
He pleaded with the Police Commander to help bring more police stations and posts to the district, to ensure peace and security, and curb the rising crime rate in the area. The DCE expressed worry over limited police stations to protect the over 146.000 population, and lamented that the over 30,000 residents in Atimatim and its surrounding communities had no police station or post to protect them.
According to him, the 96 communities in the district can boast of only four police stations, which are at Tetrem, Kyekyewere, Boamang and Kodie, the district capital. The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, also commended Nananom for the initiative of putting up the magnificent edifice.
He expressed worry over recent indisciplined acts by some of the youth in some communities in the country of late, which involved rising against personnel and attacking police stations without resorting to the right procedures in solving disputes.
DCOP Kofi Boakye pleaded with the Assembly and Nananom to give the police accurate and reliable information about criminals, as well as form watchdog committees to assist the police in fighting crime and robbery.
