A police station has been commissioned at Atonsu Dompoase, a suburb of Kumasi in the Asokwa constituency, to cater for the security of surrounding communities including Atonsu, Chirapatre, Kuwait, and others.
The new station was facilitated by Nana Adomako Boampong, Chief of the community, and his elders and the Local Development Committee. Nana Adomako Boampong, who is also Otumfuo’s Tomantohene, explained that the gesture was part of a five-year development plan drawn for the community.
He noted that security is paramount in the life of mankind, without which the acquisition of properties would be in vain. He entreated all stakeholders in the area to help build a more convenient and permanent police station that could be raised to the status of a District Police Headquarters.
DCOP Kofi Boakye, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, who inaugurated the station, commended the Dompoasehene for the provision of the facility. Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, expressed her profound gratitude to the regional police administration for the tremendous effort at fighting crime in the Metropolis.
She also pleaded with the government to effectively use the vast land available at the Asokwa Divisional Police headquarters to provide residential accommodation and other facilities for the personnel.
He suggested that the government should take advantage of the resources to reconstruct the Asokwa police barracks towards the permanent stationing of personnel in the area, which is prone to criminal activities.
